When NAR President Tom Salomone took office last November, he challenged the association’s more than 1 million members to go beyond what is expected in their business and in their community: to meet their responsibilities…and then some.

More than 100 Realtors® attending the 2016 Realtors® Conference & Expo in Orlando this week accepted that challenge and today rolled up their sleeves to lend a hand to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando.

Realtors® volunteered alongside future Habitat homeowners to construct energy-efficient, single-family homes at Butler’s Preserve in Orlando’s Malibu Groves area, which will feature 59 homes, ranging in size from two to five bedrooms and 930 to 1,500 square feet. The homes are scheduled for completion in mid-2017.

“I’m proud to have our Realtor® members lend helping hands to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando and to continue our tradition of supporting the community that hosts our annual conference and helping another family achieve the dream of homeownership,” said Salomone at the event.

The volunteers – who helped hammer, haul, paint and plant – joined Habitat homeowner Pauline McKenzie, who recently received the keys to her two-bedroom Habitat home in Butlers Preserve, which she shares with her 13-year-old son.

This is the 16th year that NAR and Habitat for Humanity have worked together to build a home in the host city for NAR’s annual conference. Realtors® also sponsored and helped build homes for Orlando residents during past conference visits to the city in 2004, 2008 and 2012.

“Everyone deserves a decent, affordable place to live and we are so thankful for our partnership with the National Association of Realtors® for helping to provide that for Central Florida residents,” said Catherine McManus, president and CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando to the volunteers.
