Don’t look now, but summer’s heat will soon slowly subside as the days become shorter and the air crisper.
In fact, signs of fall are already beginning to appear in grocery store aisles (hello, pumpkin beer) and on the gridiron. Believe it or not, after a false start at the National Football League’s Hall of Fame game this past Sunday, the preseason schedule officially kicks off this evening.
One interesting tidbit about NFL training camp is that not every team begins their season in cushy confines next door to their home stadium. Whether it’s seeking relief in more comfortable climates or through unique agreements with other cities, a few teams’ training facility is far beyond where they call “home.”
Below are the differences in median single-family home prices (second quarter of 2016) for a few teams hosting training camp away from their home cities:
Dallas Cowboys
Dallas – $232,200
Oxnard, California (Metro LA) – $480,000
Carolina Panthers
Charlotte, North Carolina – $218,100
Spartanburg, South Carolina ($145,600)
Los Angeles Rams
Metro LA – $480,000
Irvine, California – $742,200
Washington Redskins
Metro D.C. – $406,900
Richmond, Virginia (training camp) – $240,400
