It’s been four months since the White House announced Pam Patenaude as their selection for Deputy Secretary at the Department of Housing and Urban Development, but with her nomination still pending before the U.S. Senate, a diverse group of housing organizations is calling for action.
In a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, nearly 60 housing groups requested a floor vote on Patenaude’s confirmation.
“As we approach a new fiscal year, filling HUD’s Deputy Secretary position could not be more critical,” the letter said. “Pam Patenaude’s leadership will be a great asset to the Department, and her knowledge will forward the mission of HUD. We urge you to support her confirmation and move it to the Floor for a vote.”
In June, the Senate Banking Committee approved Patenaude’s nomination. That cleared the way for a vote on the Senate floor, but no action has been taken.
NAR 2017 President William E. Brown said Patenaude is an asset who needs to be utilized as soon as possible.
“This is a critical time for housing, and we can’t afford to leave good talent on the sidelines,” Brown said. “With the Senate back from August recess, it’s time to confirm Pam Patenaude as Deputy Secretary at HUD. Pam’s energy and experience will be a tremendous asset to Secretary Carson and his team. We’re hopeful the Senate will take swift action so she can get to work.”
