It’s National Singles Week, a week that recognizes single men and women, a population of 107 million Americans. Single men and women make up a large portion of the adult American population – 45 percent to be exact, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Single men and women have a large impact on the real estate industry.  According to the National Association of REALTORS® Home Buyer and Seller Generational Trends, fifteen percent of all home buyers were single females and nine percent were single males.

Single women make up the second most common group of home buyers, behind married couples.  And this number grows when looking at older buyers—20 percent of buyers between 51 and 60 years of age and 19 percent between the ages of 61 and 69 are single females.

So for all the single men and women home owners out there, next time you think you are a lonely statistic, remember that you are a critical fabric of the real estate market and are definitely not alone.
