Hot start for summertime home sales
COLUMBIA, S.C. (June 23, 2021) — Summer is a hot time for South Carolina real estate according to South Carolina REALTORS® (SCR) statewide real estate market reports. Sales continued to trend upward throughout May with a statewide 36% increase in sales from last year.
Hilton Head is again leading the state in sales, with a 93% increase in the number of residential homes, condos and villas sold compared to this time last year. Beaufort, Charleston and Myrtle Beach continue to trend with record sales.
“It was at the end of April 2020 when we began to see the influx of buyers into the Hilton Head area and that trend continues one year later. While buyer interest remains high, both buyers and sellers have become more aware of the inventory challenge and are making decisions to list or buy based on their urgency,” said Cindy Creamer, SCR president-elect and Realtor® at Dunes Real Estate in Hilton Head Island.
Inventory in South Carolina has decreased again compared to this time last year with the month’s supply of inventory down 61 percent.
“In this fast-moving market, it’s more important than ever for buyers and sellers to use a local Realtor®. We are experienced and trained in navigating the multiple offer situations that are occurring every day. Realtors® are your local experts,” said Morris Lyles, SCR 2021 president, and Realtor® at ERA Wilder in Columbia.
Houses are selling in record time with average days on market at 48, compared to 72 this time last year; a 32% decrease. Houses selling sight unseen continue to be a trend.
